Student Spotlight: Moon Kung
Introducing one of our fantastic student interns here at Facilities Management: Moon Kung! Moon has been working at FM as a Green Buildings intern for about a year now. She is a Civil and Environmental Engineering major and is planning to graduate in 2025!
Moon’s main responsibilities as a Green Buildings intern are pursuing sustainability projects for campus buildings. Their main sustainability project is LEED certifications, which is a certification process used around the globe to recognize buildings that are designed and operated with sustainability in mind. Interns work to gather data such as energy usage or water usage at facilities and determine whether they can receive LEED credits! Moon has recently been working on other sustainability projects as well, including inventory management and landfill monitoring. Moon says that she spends her typical work day analyzing data and writing reports for the projects she is working on!
Moon’s favorite part of her job is working with her fellow interns and her boss, Alex Malm. She says she loves working on an all-female team and really appreciates their team dynamic!
After she graduates, Moon hopes to pursue a career in environmental or water engineering! She recently completed an internship at the California Public Utilities Commission in San Francisco, where she worked on air quality monitoring projects.
While she’s not working or studying, Moon loves staying active! She has run a few half-marathons and is currently training for a full marathon. She also loves record shopping and crocheting! Thank you so much for all your hard work, Moon!
